Uzbekistan hand embroidery
At the European Patchwork Meeting 2018, I met Suraya Rahmanova, a designer and embroiderer from Uzbekistan. She created these beautiful motifs.
Suraya says she teaches a class of 15 girls and in the evenings they gather together and spent some hours embroidering. And she brought many pillows and table runners embroidered by her students to sell at the Patchwork Meeting and gather some money for the school.
I was very surprised to learn that one heavily embroidered pillow with dimensions approx. 40×40 cm takes one girl only a couple of evenings to finish. I love the color pallet of Suraya’s works and unique authentic feel of them.
Dear Suraya, I would like to wish you good luck with all your projects! May the Force be with you!
