Stunning Paper Piecing by Margit Siposné Cseh from Foltvilag

I stumbled across Foltvilag KFT products while exploring the commercial area at 13th Prague Patchwork Meeting. I was literally stunned by dozens of complex quilt blocks containing many pieces of various shapes.

Who made all of this? – I asked.

Me. – answered a lady behind the counter.

That’s how I met Margit Siposné Cseh and her husband. Margit runs Foltvilag KFT, a family business based in Hungary. The company creates and sells reusable plastic templates for various piecing techniques, some accessories, patchwork kits and patterns.

Margit was so nice and explained how to use the templates and showed how the finished blocks would look like from both sides.

There are two types of templates for two techniques: English paper piecing (EPP) and foundation paper piecing (FPP).

Plastic templates for English paper piecing are to be attached by a pin to a fabric while handsewing.

Templates for foundation paper piecing are used for tracing block pattern onto the base fabric.

I checked their website and probably I will order some EPP templates later (when I’m ready for this technique) – rooftile and applecore shapes are my favorite (and the most intimidating).

Margit Siposné Cseh together with Kristel Salgarollo wrote two books about patchwork. One of them titled Voyages quiltés: Déco et accessoires contemporains was available at PPM. I went through the pages and was so pleased with step-by-step tutorials and lots of beautiful photos, that I almost bought it. But at the last moment I noticed that the book was in French, so I decided to learn the language first and then go for the book (but there are so many pictures that I think one could manage even without written instructions). Well, this is additional motivation to learn French this year. The book is beautiful and I’m looking forward to buying it.

There are also many Margit’s video tutorials on YouTube that are very helpful in understanding the piecing techniques.
