Sewlebrity by Luke Haynes
Luke Haynes, American artist and quilter, likes to think about quilts as sculpture offering new fresh look on two-dimensional art of patchwork.
With his Sewlebrity collection he encourages viewers to walk around quilts and see how the shapes move and change depending of a perspective and find the right points from which the pictures on the quilts appear to be undistorted.
To create textile portraits of celebrities Luke used different techniques. For example, Hugh Jackman’s body is printed on fabric while Beyoncé’s is pieced and appliqued.
Luke incorporates used sheets and clothing into his projects to add them history. He likes when people come and see some familiar to them textiles and patterns. Backsides of his quilts are also pieced.
Over a decade Luke has been making quilts, creating one of a kind contemporary pieces that found their way into world exhibitions and private collections.
