Exquisite Longarm Quilting by Birgit Schüller
Birgit Schüller is a professional longarm quilter from Germany, who designed, pieced and quilted dozens of outstanding masterpieces. I was so lucky to see some of them at the 13th Prague Patchwork Meeting this April.
While Birgit herself was busy teaching classes at the event, her husband kindly explained me a process of creation and ideas behind some of the quilts.
This large circular wall hanging is called Dreamcatcher – Caught a Dream. It is one of my faivorite pieces on this year’s exhibition.
The quilt is so unusual and mesmerizing, the piecing and quilting are beyond compare.
The idea for creating such a quilt was inspired by the Arizona State Quarter, the 48th coin of the original 50 State Quarters Program. This one:
Birgit likes to design quilts with irregular borders which give her works even more character and movement.
This 9-Patch Windmill is a great example of modern quilt based on traditional pattern, reinvented and fresh with lots of movement in it.Many of her earlier quilts are embellished with thousands of hot fix Swarovski crystals.Birgit’s quilts are so different from each other that you would never guess that some of them belong to the same author. I like the fabric choices and the pattern of this one, that have more traditional feel about it. You can enjoy more of Birgit’s works on her website.
