How To Unthread Your Embroidery / Sewing Machine Properly
I must admit, I love to lift the spool off the pin and unthread my machine in a single motion. Quickly and efficiently! But wrong…
Here is the correct way of unthreading an embroidery/sewing machine:
- Raise the needle
- Clip the upper thread near the spool or at the first thread guide
- Raise the presser foot level
- Carefully take the thread out of the needle eye
- Pull the lower end of the thread removing it from the tension discs
- Remove the spool of thread from the spool pin
IMPORTANT! The most important thing is the presser foot position. When you raise the presser foot lever, the tension discs open and free the thread allowing to remove the thread easily. When the presser foot is down, the tension discs are engaged/closed. Then pulling on the thread may cause:
- unnecessary wear to the discs
- thread breakage
- bits of thread can stuck in the tension discs
All of this can contribute to tension problems as well as thread feeding problems.
If you think that these steps are too much for you, and you definitely are not going to spend time looking for scissors and clipping the thread, you still may try to make unthreading a bit easier for your machine. Just do the most important part – raise the presser foot lever before removing the spool from the spool pin.
Take care,
Jo
