Victoria Hillman and her Forgotten Little Creatures
At the 24th European Patchwork Meeting I had a pleasure to meet Victoria Hillman, wildlife researcher and photographer. Victoria combines her experience as zoologist with passion for photography to create truly amazing pictures of wildlife.
I’ve checked Victoria’s website and Instagram and was impressed by her works. Her pictures are not only beautiful but also inspiring.
She published a book titled Forgotten Little Creatures full of wonderful images of reptiles, insects and flowers along with the stories behind the pictures as well as curious scientific facts.
Victoria’s mother, Rosemary Hillman, also creates beautiful wall hangings and quilts based on he daughter’s photography. For example, this wonderful piece.
I’d also encourage you to read her article Ethics, Cruelty, Reality and Honesty in Wildlife Photography – Can We Believe Everything We See? It is very educative and eye opening. After reading this piece I became more cautious what pictures of wildlife I like and share in social media.
I love nature and drawing animals, insects and flowers was always enjoyable to me, now Victoria’s works reminded me about my long-forgotten intention to create embroidery collection full of delicate flowers and insects.
That’s it for today.
Love, Jo
