Eric Wolfmeyer at the 24th European Patchwork Meeting
From the Artist’s Collection is an exhibition including 8 quilts that were designed and constructed by Eric Wolfmeyer, a textile artist who creates beautiful abstract quilts. Production of each piece takes from three to six months to complete.
Majority of his pieces are designed with intention to serve both as a wall hanging and as a quilt. However, some of them are clearly intended to function only as a work of art as they are just tremendous in size – up to seven meters in length (unless beds in US are much larger than in Europe)!
I was stunned by this wonderful quilt called Dreamer. It is huge (671 cm x 252 cm) and needs an entire wall on the exhibition. I love simplicity of the pattern and great combination of colors. This quilt was one of my favorites on the European Patchwork Meeting 2018.
Unfortunately, I haven’t met the artist himself, but had a great pleasure to talk with one of his best friends, Greg Cotton, who was helping him with the exhibition. He told me that the Dreamer was finished recently, and it took Eric almost 2 years to complete this quilt! And here you can read about process of creation this colossal piece.
And here is a video from European Patchwork Meeting 2018 featuring Eric Wolfmeyer’s exhibition. Here you can see how huge his quilts are.
