Freehand Patchwork by Danny Amazonas
I was honored to meet Danny Amazonas at the European Patchwork Meeting 2018. It was a great pleasure to chat with him and learn about his Freehand Patchwork technique.
Danny Amazonas is an artist whose media is not a painter’s palette but huge stash of beautiful fabrics, which he uses to create stunning masterpieces of textile art. He takes inspiration from photos and famous paintings enhancing them with Freehand Patchwork technique.
Each piece of fabric needs to be prepared in certain way beforehand. First of all, Danny starches and presses strips of fabric. After starching the backside of fabric panels are fused with fusible web. This way, they hold the shape and are easier to work with. When the time comes, Danny cuts fabrics with a rotary cutter.
He uses a plain muslin as a base for his projects. The artist traces outlines of the designs on the muslin and puts overlapping layers of fused fabric on it playing with shapes, colors and values, and making alterations. Then he irons them in place. When the whole composition is ready, he quilts it with an invisible thread.
Danny says there were 1200 pieces of fused fabric prepared and ready to be used for his works while thousands of them were still waiting in his stash for new projects. To see more pictures please visit Danny Amazonas official Facebook page.
Thank you, Mr. Amazonas, for your wonderful masterpieces and all the inspiration you give to creative souls!
